The Khmer Anti-deportation and Advocacy Group (KhAAG) is dedicated to advancing the rights and welfare of all refugee and immigrant communities by offering support, assistance, and guidance in navigating the immigration system in the United States.
Impact Highlights
Through the We Got Us Fund grant, KhAAG aim to empower impacted community members and their families by equipping them with the knowledge and resources necessary to navigate the complexities of the immigration system. They create a supportive environment that ensures access to equitable legal assistance and due process for all. KhAAG raises awareness about the unique challenges faced by Southeast Asian communities and refugees, advocating for the abolition of deportation practices that disproportionately affects BIPOC, immigrant and refugee communities. By fostering community advocacy and power building, rapid response, direct support, political education, and youth fellowship work, they work to create a strong network of informed and trained advocates who are committed to fighting for intersectional equity and justice.
What’s Next
KhAAG was established in response to the ICE raids of summer 2017, with a mission to advocate for community members and families facing deportation and family separation. As they navigate a transition in leadership, they are committed to developing a succession plan that preserves institutional knowledge and strengthens movement relationships. KhAAG’s goal is to transition from a grassroots volunteer-based model to a fully independent, operational non-profit organization. To achieve this, they’ll focus on enhancing their leadership team and implementing sustainable financial, operational, board oversight, and programmatic policies. They’ll continue their core mission activities of community advocacy, power-building initiatives, rapid response support, political education, and youth fellowship programs.KhAAG aims to expand our impact and ensure long-term support for those they serve.
